Mission
To provide people with diverse opportunities to enjoy learning and growing throughout their lives

Ever since the days in which it was difficult for women to take part in society, the University has continued to the present day to produce graduates who are active in many different fields. The ethos imbued in our graduates of the “Three Principles of Education,” namely “Firm Conviction,”, “Spontaneity and Creativity” and “Service to Society,” and the University's meticulous education that ascertains the needs of each and every student and supports the lives of the graduates who go on to play a core role in society and at home.

Our mission is to provide opportunities for women to continue to learn and grow throughout their lives.

Women who in every social field and situation can display leadership and be either leaders or followers according to circumstances – I believe that sending women like these out in to society is the mission of the integrated education JWU implements.

To create a society where everyone can keep learning and growing throughout their lives

Based on the vision, mission, and principles that define the direction in which we should head, we will work together with the University's constituents and stakeholders to strengthen the University's overall brand image.

Basic ethos – the Three Principles of Education

Firm Conviction – reflecting on oneself and establishing convictions

To maintain the determination to be aware of and know oneself, and through the process of ceaseless self-questioning and intelligence to pursue an anchoring conviction.
This is the keystone of the three principles.

Spontaneity and creativity – individuality borne through voluntary endeavors

To thoroughly pursue the innate talents in each person, and nurture and develop the individuality and characteristics unique to them.
Starting with the recognition of the unknown lying within oneself, they are borne out of the process of searching for firm conviction.

Service to society – interacting with society leads to the growth of people

To establish and promote the growth of the individual and contribute to an essential solidarity and harmony with society in dealing with other people in social settings. Intellectual, mental and personality-based interaction in society becomes important.

In line with the conviction of the founder Jinzo Naruse to “educate women as human beings (hito)” (Joshikyoiku (“women's education”)) the University has, since its opening in 1901, pioneered a path for women's higher education ahead of its time.
Here we will introduce the strengths of the University based on its vision, mission and basic ethos.
