Learn about the Graduate School of Humanities
Literature has been an expression that broadly epitomizes various aspects of human culture using the medium of language. Although the development of science and the arts in the modern times has expanded the field of literary studies and at the same time brought about fragmentation of the field, literary studies still remain a comprehensive pursuit of the human condition.
The Graduate School of Humanities is compactly organized into the Division of Japanese, Division of English, and Division of History. First, each of these divisions strives to cultivate unique research fields and a sophisticated methodological awareness necessary for the latest research. Then, in collaboration with each other, the three Divisions establish an interdisciplinary curriculum so that students can build a universal ethos common to literature, language and history.
