Department of English

To become an internationally active person by attaining a high level of English proficiency and cross-cultural understanding

English is becoming increasingly important as the world's common language. In this Department, students will not only develop smooth communication skills and solid written expression in English, but also deepen their knowledge of the literature, language, culture and society of the English-speaking world. We train students to become global citizens with a broad perspective, originality, and a strong ability to communicate in English.

Features of the Department

To be able to interact with people around the world and to acquire strong ability to communicate

In this Department, students acquire the four skills of English listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and then study a wide range of subjects across six specialized fields. As seminars and the graduation study seminar are basically conducted in small groups, students will naturally be able to acquire the ability to present their own opinions and communication skills.

Students write their graduation thesis in English over the two-year graduation study seminar

The graduation thesis is the culmination of comprehensive studies including information gathering techniques, thinking and conceptual skills, and methods of writing papers in English. While deepening their own themes through presentations and discussions, students receive individual interviews and guidance in the writing of their thesis by faculty members, and complete their thesis in English.
