Chancellor's comments

Chancellor Ryoko Imaichi

With the vision that aims “to create a society where everyone can keep learning and growing throughout their lives,” the Incorporated Educational Institution of Japan Women's University cites its mission as being “to provide people with diverse opportunities to enjoy learning and growing throughout their lives,” and implements integrated education running from kindergarten through to university and graduate schools, as well as a Correspondence Course and lifelong education through the Recurrent Education Program.

The changes in today's society are dramatic, and there is a constant call for the creation of new value. This requires lifelong learning for each and every person and co-creation with other people. Furthermore, it is precisely because the road ahead in our day and age is unclear and there is a strong sense of entrapment that we need the power of “women.” Women who in every social field and situation can display leadership and be either leaders or followers according to circumstances – I believe that sending women like these out in to society is the mission of the integrated education JWU implements.

From April this year JWU will start a medium-term plan that looks over the next seven years. The medium-term plan is a sort of navigational map for JWU. Its objectives are to improve the quality of education and research from the Homei Kindergarten affiliated with JWU up to the University, graduate schools, Correspondence Course and Recurrent Education Program, and to strengthen the University's management base. Naturally, the cornerstones of these objectives are still the Three Principles of Education set out by our founder Jinzo Naruse, namely “firm conviction,” “spontaneity and creativity,” and “service to society.” What the University is currently making a particular effort in is global education, STEAM education and career education within our integrated education.

We will continue to make every effort towards achieving its educational philosophy and contributing to society. Thank you all for your ongoing support and cooperation.
